How to Make a PowerPoint With Claude (3 Ways)

A board update due Friday, a client pitch, a lecture for next week: Claude can now build all of them as real PowerPoint files. There are three ways to make a PowerPoint with Claude, and they suit different starting points, so picking the right one first saves an afternoon of fixing slides afterwards.

Quick answer. Claude makes PowerPoint decks three ways: Claude Slides builds a deck in any chat, on any plan, and downloads it as .pptx; the Claude for PowerPoint add-in (Pro and up) builds and edits slides inside PowerPoint using your template; and a design connector such as Playyy lets Claude produce a fully designed deck with images and export an editable PPTX.

Which Claude PowerPoint route should you use?

Start from what you already have. A corporate template points to the add-in, a blank page and a deadline point to Claude Slides, and a deck that has to look designed, with product imagery and brand colors, points to a connector.

As of October 2026, those plan details come from Anthropic's Claude for PowerPoint documentation and its Claude Slides tutorial. Both products change often, so check the plan line before you rely on it for a team rollout.

Way 1: Make slides with Claude in a chat (Claude Slides)

This is the fastest route and the one every plan includes. Claude Slides opens the deck beside the conversation, where you can edit it by hand, comment on an element, or ask for changes in the chat.

  1. Describe the deck. Give the purpose, the audience and the length: "A 10-slide quarterly update for our board. Lead with revenue, then hiring, then risks."
  2. Attach your material. Notes, a PDF report, a spreadsheet or last quarter's deck. Claude either builds straight away or proposes an outline first.
  3. Edit in place. Double-click text to retype it, drag to move, or click a chart and write a comment for Claude to act on.
  4. Download PowerPoint. Choose PowerPoint with current fonts, or with basic fonts if the file will open on someone else's computer.

One thing to plan for: Anthropic's Claude Slides tutorial notes that in PowerPoint exports, charts, icons and shapes become pictures, and transitions are left out. For a deck you present from Claude or send as a PDF, that rarely matters. For a deck a colleague will keep editing in PowerPoint, rebuild the charts there or use one of the other two routes.

Way 2: Use the Claude for PowerPoint add-in

The add-in is the right call when the deck must match a corporate template, because Claude reads the open file's slide master, layouts, fonts and color scheme and builds with them.

  1. Install it. Get Claude for Microsoft 365 from Microsoft AppSource, or ask your IT admin to deploy it through the Microsoft 365 Admin Center.
  2. Open a deck with your template applied. Starting from the template is what keeps new slides on brand.
  3. Ask for slides or edits. "Create a market sizing section, three slides covering TAM, SAM and SOM," or select a slide and say "turn these bullets into a process flow."
  4. Review before you send. Anthropic's own guidance is to check every change before it goes to a client.

The Claude for PowerPoint add-in creates native charts and diagrams, so the numbers stay editable. It runs on PowerPoint on the web, PowerPoint for Windows with a Microsoft 365 subscription, and PowerPoint for Mac version 16.46 or later; PowerPoint 2016, 2019, iPad and Android are outside its supported list.

Way 3: Connect a design tool to Claude (PowerPoint MCP)

Claude Slides and the add-in both produce tidy business layouts. When the deck needs to look designed, such as a pitch with product shots, a launch deck in brand colors or a sales deck with custom imagery, add a design tool to Claude through MCP, the open protocol Claude uses for connectors. Playyy's connector gives Claude the design agent behind the AI presentation maker, which builds editable slides, generates the images and applies your brand kit.

  1. Add the connector. In Claude, open Settings → Connectors, choose Add custom connector and paste https://mcp.playyy.ai/mcp. In Claude Code, run claude mcp add --transport http playyy https://mcp.playyy.ai/mcp. The Playyy setup guide for Claude walks through both.
  2. Sign in and approve. A Playyy sign-in opens in your browser; choose the workspace Claude may use. A free Playyy account works, and design tasks use Playyy credits.
  3. Ask for the deck. "Use Playyy to make a 10-slide seed pitch deck for Brightloop, an e-bike rental startup for delivery riders. Green accent color." Claude starts the design, waits for it, and replies with a preview and a link to the editable deck.
  4. Refine, then export PPTX. Keep asking in the same chat ("make the traction slide lead with 40% month-over-month growth"), or open the deck in Playyy and change any element by hand. Then ask Claude to export it as PowerPoint.

This route suits decks that carry product imagery, because Playyy generates a picture for each slide and places it in the layout, so the deck arrives with visuals in place of empty image frames. For decks you'd rather start outside Claude, the same agent runs in the AI pitch deck generator.

What survives the trip to .pptx

Every route ends in a .pptx file, but the files are built differently, and that decides how much editing your colleagues can do later.

A .pptx file is a ZIP package of XML parts defined by the Office Open XML standard. A native chart in that package is a chart part linked to an embedded workbook, so PowerPoint can reopen the data and redraw it. A chart exported as a picture is a single image file with no data behind it.

That's the practical difference between the three routes. The Claude for PowerPoint add-in writes straight into the open file, so everything it adds is native. Playyy's PPTX export writes text, shapes and tables as separate objects and charts as native charts with an embedded data sheet. Claude Slides' PowerPoint download keeps text editable but turns charts, icons and shapes into pictures. Before you build a 30-slide deck, export a two-slide test and open it in PowerPoint; it takes a minute and shows exactly what your reviewers will get.

Prompts that get better Claude PowerPoint decks

Whichever route you choose, Claude builds better slides from a brief than from a topic.

  • Name the audience and the decision. "For our CFO, who has to approve the budget" produces a different deck than "about our budget."
  • Give the slide count and the order. "Ten slides: problem, solution, market, traction, team, ask."
  • Supply the numbers. Paste the figures or attach the spreadsheet. Anthropic's tutorial notes Claude leaves a visible placeholder when a figure is missing, which is better than an invented one, but it still leaves you work.
  • Ask for one idea per slide. It keeps text short enough to read from the back of the room, a point we cover in what makes a slide deck work.
  • Say what to keep. When editing, name the slides that must not change.

Claude now makes PowerPoint decks wherever you work: in a chat with Claude Slides, inside PowerPoint with the add-in, or through a design connector when the slides need to look designed. Pick by your starting point and by how editable the final file must be. To try the third route, connect Playyy to your AI assistant and ask for your next deck in the chat you already have open.

Yes. Ask for a deck in any Claude chat and Claude Slides builds it beside the conversation, ready to download as a .pptx file. On Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise plans, the Claude for PowerPoint add-in also builds and edits slides inside PowerPoint itself, using your template.
