X (Twitter) Header Size

An X (formerly Twitter) header is 1500 × 500 px at a 3:1 aspect ratio, under 2 MB. Two things reliably break header designs: the profile photo overlaps the lower-left corner on desktop, and on mobile X crops the header shorter, trimming the top and bottom. The dependable design area is the central band, clear of the left 220 px.

Design Tips

  • Keep logos and text out of the bottom-left 220 × 220 px. The circular profile photo sits there on desktop and covers roughly 10% of the banner.
  • Mobile crops the header vertically. Centre the composition rather than anchoring it to the top or bottom edge, or it will be clipped on phones.
  • Stay under 2 MB. X recompresses headers hard, and photographic banners with fine detail or gradients band visibly. Flat colour and simple shapes survive the compression far better.
  • The 3:1 ratio is extremely wide. Horizontal lockups, repeating patterns, and wide landscape photography work; portrait imagery and stacked type do not.

How to Make a Twitter Header in Playyy

Three steps, no design software. Set the size once — from the size options or straight in your prompt — and every design comes out at 1,500 × 500 px.

  1. 1

    Open Playyy

Playyy runs in your browser, so there's nothing to download. Sign in and you'll land on the Home page.

  2. 2

Type your prompt and set the X Header size

Describe what you want in the input box on the Home page, then set the size whichever way is quicker. Pick X Header from the size options right underneath — every platform's sizes are in that list, so you don't have to look this one up. Or just say it in your prompt, like "X Header at 1,500 × 500 px", and Playyy matches it. Either way the design comes out at 3:1.

  3. 3

Create your X Header design and download it

Playyy generates the design at the full 1,500 × 500 px, so it's ready to upload as it is. Accepted formats: JPG, PNG, GIF (non-animated). Keep the file under 2 MB.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Twitter header size?+

1500 × 500 pixels at a 3:1 aspect ratio, maximum 2 MB, in JPG, PNG, or non-animated GIF. This is the header banner across the top of an X profile. Your profile photo overlaps the lower-left corner on desktop.

What is the X header photo size?+

1500 × 500 px — X kept Twitter's header dimensions unchanged after the rebrand. The minimum accepted is 600 × 200 px, but anything below 1500 px wide is upscaled and looks soft on desktop and retina displays.

What is the Twitter header banner safe zone?+

The central band, avoiding the bottom-left 220 × 220 px where the avatar sits and allowing for a vertical crop on mobile. Practically: keep all critical content within the middle 60% of the height and to the right of 250 px from the left edge.

Why does my X header look blurry?+

Almost always because the upload was smaller than 1500 × 500 px and got upscaled, or because a detailed photograph hit X's 2 MB recompression. Export at exactly 1500 × 500 px, and prefer flat graphics over fine-grained photography.

Does the X header size differ on mobile?+

The upload is the same 1500 × 500 px, but the mobile app crops it shorter top and bottom and the avatar sits in a slightly different position. Centre the composition vertically rather than filling the full 500 px height, or the top and bottom of your design will be trimmed on phones.
